TOPIC: In Caledon, the third week of March is perfect timing to tap trees and make maple syrup! If you don’t have a sugar maple tree on your property, no problem. Did you know that you can tap any type of maple tree and produce fantastic syrup? It’s true! That big juicy Norway maple tree in your front yard is eager to meet some pancakes. Join us and learn from a local backyard syrup expert how deliciously fun and easy it is to make your own maple syrup at home.
*If Mother Nature cooperates, this presentation will be followed up with an on-site visit to Karen’s backyard syrup operation on Saturday March 23rd from 1-3pm. Details and confirmation to be provided at the March 19th meeting.
SPEAKER: Karen Hollingshead has been tapping trees on her property for many years and produces syrup from five different varieties of maples. Karen planted all of the trees in her yard herself and was thrilled when they were finally large enough to tap. In the past few years she happily “branched out” when her neighbours offered her their trees for tapping as well.
